Mouthguards and Night Guards

Mouthguards and night guards are essential for maintaining dental health and preventing injury. Custom-fitted mouthguards protect your teeth during sports activities, reducing the risk of dental injuries. Night guards help prevent damage from teeth grinding (bruxism) during sleep. Schedule an appointment today to get fitted for a mouthguard or night guard and protect your smile.

  • What are the types of dental mouthguards?

There are three main types of dental mouthguards: stock mouthguards, boil-and-bite mouthguards, and custom-fitted mouthguards.

Stock mouthguards are pre-made and can be purchased at most sporting goods stores, but they often offer the least protection and comfort.

Boil-and-bite mouthguards can be softened in hot water and then molded to fit your teeth.

Custom-fitted mouthguards are made by Dr. Foote and Dr. Luehrs from a mold of your teeth, providing the best fit, comfort, and protection.

  • How do night guards help teeth grinding?

Night guards are designed to protect your teeth from the effects of bruxism, or teeth grinding, during sleep. They create a barrier between your upper and lower teeth, preventing wear and tear on the enamel, reducing jaw strain, and alleviating symptoms such as headaches and jaw pain. By wearing a night guard, you can prevent significant dental damage and maintain better oral health.

  • Why are mouth guards important in sports?

Mouthguards are crucial for protecting your teeth and mouth during sports activities. They help cushion impacts to the face, reducing the risk of broken teeth, cut lips, and other oral injuries. Wearing a mouthguard can also prevent serious injuries like jaw fractures and concussions. Dr. Foote and Dr. Luehrs recommend custom-fitted mouthguards for optimal protection and comfort during sports.
